The current septic system ordinance is in the process of being updated to address the following issues:

Allow the development of properties with challenging site/soil conditions such as steep slopes, slow percolation rates or high groundwater by using advanced septic system technology.
Clarify if/when a home remodel or addition project will require an upgrade to the septic system.
Bring the new Alameda County septic system ordinance into alignment with the mandates of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.
