  • 11/23/2015  Drummond: Laura's Law offers hope to loved ones of severely mentally ill  Laura's Law is a compassionate and effective solution to provide care in the community for people with serious mental illnesses who are most likely to end up in jail, homeless, the victim of a crime or in the cycle of repeated short-term hospitalizations. As a member of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, I see Laura's Law as a tool that can break the appalling cycle of multiple 5150 holds, arrests, incarcerations and homelessness. Read my opinion piece on Laura's Law here:
  • 09/18/2015  SLHS Health Center Opens  I am proud to have provided the initial start-up funding for San Leandro's first school-based health center. Alameda County has invested millions of dollars in funding the ‪health‬ clinic to offer accessible health and mental health care to students and the San Leandro community. I look forward to a continued partnership with the San Leandro Unified School District and City of San Leandro.
  • 09/14/2015  Conserving water during the drought (KTVU Channel 2)  Despite predictions for a strong ‪‎El Nino‬, one of our biggest challenges is the lack of snowpack in the Sierras. It's supposed to be a wet winter, but also a very warm one. That means the chances of recharging our snowpack, which is so critical to ‪California‬'s water supply, remains unlikely. We all need to continue to save water for a long term solution. Please join me at one of my upcoming workshops to learn more about what you can do to help save water and conserve this precious resource. The next workshops are scheduled to take place at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church on October 10 and at the San Leandro Senior Community Center on October 17.
  • 08/28/2015  New San Lorenzo Library Opens this Saturday  The library renovation is the first of many improvements that will greatly enhance San Lorenzo over the coming years. Additional funds from the $90 million in redevelopment money that I saved are helping to finance the construction of senior apartments adjacent to the library, the Hesperian Boulevard streetscape project, and a civic plaza.
  • 08/27/2015  San Lorenzo: Expanded library reopens with latest in tech  Chan was able to keep the long-planned library project going after redevelopment agencies were dissolved. In 2012, she proposed that the county set aside $90 million over five years to fund redevelopment projects that were in the works at the time, such as the library expansion. Her fellow supervisors agreed to use county money for the projects, which also include renovation of major thoroughfare Hesperian Boulevard and low-income senior apartments next to the library. In two to three years, a plaza will connect the library to Hesperian. Next to the library, workers are building low-income senior apartments. "The library expansion project is the cornerstone of a larger effort to revitalize San Lorenzo," Chan said.
