Overview

The Maintenance and Operations Department provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives, works, visits and commutes within the unincorporated areas of Alameda County as well as the eight defined flood zones that provide flood protection for most of its cities. The unincorporated areas within Alameda County include the urban communities of Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, San Lorenzo, Sunol and most of the rural outlying areas of the eastern portion of the county. Alameda County is the seventh largest county in California it has an estimated 142,166 residents within its unincorporated areas and a total population of 1,491,482 (as of 2009). Many of our rural roads also serve as alternative commute routes for thousands of commuters and businesses daily.

The Maintenance and Operations Department consist of two main divisions, the Fleet Division and the Maintenance Division.

All service requests can be directed to our dispatchers at 510-670-5500 (West County) or 925-803-7000 for (East County).

If a problem constitutes an emergency and occurs before or after normal business hours or on a weekend or holiday, please contact the Alameda County Sheriff's Office at 510-667-7721. Examples of an emergency would be traffic signal malfunctions, missing stop/yield/traffic control signs, dangerous obstructions in the roadway, or serious roadway or flood control channel flooding. For all other emergencies, threatening imminent danger or of a life threatening nature, dial 911.
